Digi Yatra International Trials from 1 November: Who Is Eligible?

Travel News | 28 October 2026

Flying abroad soon? Digi Yatra is preparing trials for eligible Indian international passengers at seven airports, with the passenger trial scheduled to go live on 1 November 2026. The important distinction: this is a limited trial, and travellers must still carry their documents and complete immigration and airline checks.

Who is covered by the announced trial?

According to ETTravelWorld’s report dated 27 October, the programme is for Indian nationals holding e-passports on eligible international Air India and IndiGo services. The listed airports are Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mumbai, Chennai and Amritsar. The programme runs through December 2026; beta activity is already underway.

ETTravelWorld reports coverage of Air India’s international destinations and selected IndiGo destinations, subject to enabled airport infrastructure. Do not assume that every passenger, flight or gate at these airports is eligible.

What changes—and what stays the same?

Express Computer’s coverage explains that eligible travellers can create an e-passport-based digital credential in the Digi Yatra app for participating airport touchpoints. Availability depends on the infrastructure installed at each location.

The same report makes clear that the credential does not replace immigration checks or other travel requirements. Carry the passport, relevant entry permissions and other required travel documents. Completing an app process is not permission to enter another country.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation describes Digi Yatra as voluntary. Conventional passenger-processing arrangements remain an option.

What should you do before your international flight?

  • Confirm eligibility: Ask your airline or departure airport whether your passport, flight and terminal are covered before relying on the trial.
  • Use official channels: Follow the Digi Yatra link from the Ministry’s website and use official app guidance. Avoid unfamiliar links requesting document uploads.
  • Keep your documents accessible: Bring the originals and any supporting documents your airline or destination requires.
  • Allow normal airport time: Do not reduce your arrival buffer on the assumption that every checkpoint will be enabled or queues will be shorter.
  • Keep an alternative: If the digital process is unavailable or you are ineligible, follow the airport’s conventional procedure.

Why this matters for holiday planning

For eligible passengers, the trial could make some departure steps more convenient. It should not change your visa preparation, transfer planning or international check-in deadline. Our practical recommendation is to treat it as an optional facility rather than a reason to arrive late.

If you are planning a holiday, compare Europe tour packages from India, Thailand holidays or Vietnam packages separately from airport-processing eligibility. A booking with WishToGo does not itself establish eligibility for this trial.
